Watching a Whale Fall
“Can't we just shout and leave?
Can't we just throw ourselves at life and go?
Try to live it all in one day?
Hard and fast,
Because girls like us never last.”

Watching a Whale Fall follows the all-female crew aboard the pirate ship Day of Reckoning as they navigate their way through their own untimely deaths at the hands of the British Navy. The crew must contend with the ghosts of the men they’ve killed, a chorus of albatrosses and falling whales, but what lies on the other side. And more importantly, does it matter?
Watching a Whale Fall is a death-positive and queer inclusive play set to traditional sea shanties. It has enjoyed two R&D’s with generous support from the National Youth Theatre, and an in-progress showing at The Lion and Unicorn with support from London Playwright’s Workshop.
